it's over already?

john and i had a wonderful four day weekend. [the plan was to be backpacking with steve and yvonne, but we postponed our trip for better weather and a more user friendly location. can't wait until we are able to go; i am itching to go camping already!]

on friday we spent the morning in the garden (see previous post) and ran some errands in the afternoon. as always, i suggested a movie for the evening - which turned into the best kind of movie watching - the DRIVE IN! i love it...in your own car, eating your own food, all cozied up in blankets and pillows; playing games and chatting until the movies start. and the best part - $7 per person for two movies! you can't beat that. many more of these to come this summer for sure!

the rest of the weekend was spent doing some yard work, a much needed deep clean inside the house, hanging out with friends, naps, reading, bbq with both families and just good quality time with my most loved husband!

can't we do this every weekend??

veggie tales **episode three**

we FINALLY planted the garden!! [our backpacking trip for this long weekend was postponed (bummer!) so we finally had time to dig in and get dirty.]

cucumbers, carrots, beets, onions, parsley, chives, cilantro, sweet peppers, habaneros, red and green peppers, cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, yellow squash, two types of lettuce, kale, chard, broccoli, snap beans, watermelon and cantaloupe! wow (a little ambitious for a first year don't ya think)...i sure hope they all grow and produce :)

{don't mind the look of the soil in this picture, it really is much more fertile than it appears!}

it was a lot of hard work to dig out the grass and prepare the soil [sunburn and sore muscles to prove] but we are praying that some close attention and good weather will keep this garden a float. [no pun intended...we woke up to an inch of snow in the yard today. boo. good thing we only planted seeds.]

can't wait to see all the little sprouts in the coming weeks!

tweets

we hung our first bird feeder a couple months ago. immediately we had multiple types of birds visiting all day long.

{our cat loves it...always chirping back at them, asking us to go outside and dashing from one window to the next to get the best view}

we have really enjoyed watching the birds also, they are just such a neat creation. so many variations, colors and tweets.

just this weekend we bought a second feeder for the back deck. i love the look of this one! i caught these two doves this morning. they were so sweet, they crossed the whole porch and wouldn't leave each others side, even when they flew off.

and just now I ran upstairs and there were seven birds [none of them the same] all around the feeder - three on the porch, one on the railing, two on the feeder and one on the hanger - and of course, our prowling cat, watching closely.

guy weekend...

john and the guys went camping this weekend. they had a ton of fun, went on lots of hikes {some not so safe} and i'm sure had some good guy bonding time! here are some of the pictures that john took [in no specific order].

girl weekend...

he left friday afternoon. from the moment he said goodbye 'til i set eyes on him yesterday, i missed him. oh i missed him!

{see the next post for his adventures}

i realize it was only two and a half days, but even that amount of time without even hearing his voice is long. i wouldn't say that i feel lonely when he's gone, because i know i'm not alone - it's just the thought that i'm missing out on whatever he's doing, those memories that he's making, the ones that i'm making, the ones i'd rather be sharing. the time apart truly makes me appreciate all that i have and all that he is. sadly, he is gone again for work and will not return until wednesday. {lots of appreciating to come!}

anyway...enough of the mushy, gushy, love stuff! here's what I did over the weekend:

on friday i had dinner with my parents, walked with mom and hung out at their place. went home to an attention deprived cat and slept pretty awesome! (some people don't sleep as well or as soundly when their spouse is not in the bed with them. not me! i love my man, but if i am totally honest, i sleep better alone. but i will trade really good sleep for sleeping next to him anyday!)

saturday was a full day. ladies breakfast, walk/jog for 3 miles, carwash and vacuum, much needed shower. laundry, shopping with nanny (yay for finding something surprisingly cute in a reasonable amount of time, i'll show it off later...), more laundry, dishes, dinner and off to pick up yvonne!

von and i headed down to the gateway to browse around. the weather was finally beautiful and we took full advantage! it was so much fun strolling from shop to shop, taking pictures and chatting.

thanks to a dear friend we were able to stay at the marriot in salt lake. it was a total surprise when we walked in and everything was so hip and modern. we checked out the place, took some fun pictures, tried the pool {too many kids, splashing and yelling to stay and enjoy it}, picked out our calorie friendly snacks for the night, painted our nails and watched some tv.

unfortunately the rain only stayed away for one day, so our plans for the zoo on sunday fell through. we ended up heading home, grabbing lunch and went home to welcome back our hubbys.

i am so thankful for my girl time {even if it means missing my man} and am even more grateful for the relationships the Lord has given me. love you friend. what fun we have together!

thoughts...

This work day is creeping by; therefore I am filling it with thoughts, lists, and plans for the weeks to come.

My husband is going camping with the guys. I love that he has ‘guys’ that he can hang out with, guys that are spiritually encouraging and supportive, guys that have similar and different interests, guys that allow him to be himself. He needs his guy time; I need to him to have his guy time. But I will miss him abundantly.

Girl time. {Yes, another reason why I love guy time!} An overnight getaway - that was supposed to be with a few of the wives, but it looks like it will just be me and Von. No problemo! :D I think we can handle it. [Another friend booked a room free with her travel points, but unfortunately has to work and is not able to go; she is still letting us have the room. Thanks Karla!!] I need girl time; it helps me be a better wife.

Our garden feels like such a burden right now. The plants we started inside are dying because they need new soil; they are now sitting outside waiting to be planted. We are trying to dig up the ground but the weather keeps turning on us. It’s hard - hard ground, hard to find time. I will be so thankful when we get those little seeds in the ground, I feel like then it will be easier. Probably not!

Backpacking next weekend!

This morning at work a few of us got told that we need to work overtime as many Saturday’s as possible. Ha! Are you kidding me??!! It is summer for pete's sake {or will be soon} and I have way better things to do with my weekends. Don’t they realize we don’t all live in this office. Thankfully I really am busy the next three weekends and have good excuses, we’ll see after that…

I highlighted my hair blonde. Ultra blonde. Still getting used to it. John likes it, which is good, because he wanted the blonde and he usually doesn’t have an opinion.

Spiritually I’m lagging. Failing. My focus is so blurry. Looking forward to this evening with my community to realign my heart.

We've been calorie counting, and doing pretty darn good! [Down 1.4 last week and hoping for the same this week.] Currently I'm craving a soda...well, honestly, I always want a soda. So instead of giving in - I think I will go get a small calorie fruit snack pack instead. Hooray!

the park!

last weekend we had a big shin-dig at the park. ultimate frisbee, volleyball, friends and lots of cute kids! thanks everyone for coming...it was a fabulous time :D

(this was only about half the group...i pulled and yvonne and didn't take a group picture until the end! :D )

on sunday, mother's day, we went to nanny and pappy's for lunch and then headed over to my parents for dinner. we played a couple games and had a lot of laughs, as always!
