so sweet

john surprised me with these flowers and a sweet card yesterday!

marriage

While we were out this weekend we ran into some old friends. Since we had seen them last their family has been through awful heartache, death, divorce, hurt and sadness. They seemed in good spirits though, which seems almost impossible. Afterwards, John and I had a good conversation about marriage, divorce and how grateful we are that the Lord brought us on our journey like He did, God has blessed us beyond our expectations! We dated all through high school and another year after I graduated before we got married, we spend a lot of time with each other’s families, a lot of time talking about the future and what we desired individually and as a couple. It was not always easy hashing those things out, but we did and it was necessary. We then waited and are still waiting to have kids, which has given us more time to enjoy our relationship, each other and have some awesome experiences we otherwise wouldn’t have had.

I’m not saying everyone needs to start out like us, we are definitely not the ultimate example…all relationships are different and have a unique story. It’s not the length of the relationship, but rather the substance. I don’t think a lot of couples today take the effort to truly get to know one another, ask the hard questions…they go into it knowing that they can get out if it’s not good enough or doesn’t make them “happy”. And that makes it all the easier to give up and try again. The world has made marriage and love everything that it’s not and has thrown Biblical principles out the window.

God created marriage for a man and a woman (only!) and those vows taken last for a lifetime. Love and respect are necessary; the woman needs to be in submission, not domination, to the man; the man needs to be submissive unto the Lord; forgiveness, understanding, patience, kindness, etc, have to be present. We, as humans, are not perfect but through God’s grace we can have marriages that are glorifying to Him and bring us joy and happiness. We cannot do it in our own strength; we’re not meant too, we need to depend fully on Him to guide us through!

Again, I am so thankful for John and our marriage! He’s my best friend and I’m blessed to be his wife!

quick catch up

i apparently have not had too much to say in the last two months! so i thought i should catch up a bit...

john is still pluggin' away at school. he hasn't had hardly any tests, if any at all yet, so it doesn't feel like he's actually going this semester, but he's working on a couple big projects due in the next month. we are both looking forward to him being able to finish, but unsure where it may take us when he's done. at this point we're not really sure what opportunities there are, there are not many positions being advertised, so we are praying that he will be able to at least get an internship with a city or county to build up experience. i'm just thankful he currently has a job that will continue to provide while he searches for something in his field!

we are SO looking forward to this summer!! john is getting prepared to do quite a few backpacking trips with the guys and we are picking up things here and there for camping too. and might i add...we are getting some killer deals!! john found an ENORMOUS tent on ksl for on $50, it's in great shape and will be perfect for us, we are also waiting on a new rack for our crv and a camping stove. and oh, i can't forget steepandcheap.com, this website has taken over :) deals, deals, deals!! summer and camping is about all we can talk about and i can't wait!

i love the sun!

I wrote this at work, last week, which was followed by a day full of snow...oh the irony!

The sun is shining today. I can see a small ray from my cubicle and it makes me happy. Memories of FUN in the SUN come flooding back and I can’t wait until Spring and Summer roll around!

I have appreciated the sun more now than I ever have before. Winter has dragged on as it does every year and unfortunately I don’t enjoy all the winter sports that could keep me busy. It is dark when I get up and it’s dark when I leave work and I’m ready for a change!! March 14th (daylight savings)…here I come!

Seeing just a glimpse of it now makes me think about all sorts of things…I can’t wait to be outside and not get the chills or see my breath, to have picnics and barbeques, camping and swimming, opening the windows and seeing the curtains move slightly because FRESH air is coming in! Washing the car, Frisbee golf, flip flops, kayaking, reading a book or just eating lunch outside!

Yay sun! Thank you Lord for giving us warmth, fun and adventure, leisure and relaxation! Bring it on! :0)
